Growing up, my brothers and I spent a lot of time at our grandparent’s home. We lived nearby and because mom stayed home with us throughout the summer, we always had a ride.
For better or worse, times have changed. Today it’s pretty common for both parents to work and/or for families to move away from their extended relatives seeking opportunity in other locales.
While technology has made it much easier to stay connected, it doesn’t replace quality face-to-face time. Enter: The vacation. Vacations are a great way to make new memories with family and bond with loved ones.
To help get the planning process started, we’re sharing a selection of tips courtesy of Barbara Danza for the Epoch Times:
Set a Budget: Danza says that once you’ve decided to travel together, have an open discussion about money. Money can be an uncomfortable topic, so busting through it early will make communication and decision making easier as you go, she says.
Rent a House: Danza says that in most cases renting a house is more economical and provides more options. Look for a house with open common spaces and private sleeping spaces, she says. If you can find a place with a dishwasher and laundry room, that’s a bonus.
Survey Expectations: Danza says that it’s important to get everyone involved in the process from the start and to communicate openly throughout the entire process. Start early, she says, so you have time to pinpoint what each person wants out of the trip.
Keep Options Open and Free: Danza says that it’s important to understand who you’re traveling with and what they enjoy on vacation. She recommends letting them be free to have the vacation they want.
