4 Simple Ways to Give Your Home’s Deck a Boost

Deck Building For Beginners

If you have a deck, you know it’s going to get plenty of action this time of the year. Whether you’re throwing a Fourth of July party or a backyard barbeque, the deck is the prime spot for gathering, laughing, cooking, entertaining, and, of course, eating. So how can you make sure your deck is ready for all that fun? Below we’re shared a list of tips for upgrading your deck, courtesy of Better Homes and Gardens. Happy summer!

Clean, Repair, and Stain It:

BHG says that before you can add anything to your deck, it’s best to build a solid foundation. Cosmetic changes, they say, can’t hide a deck in disrepair or dirty boards so make time each year to clean and restain your deck to “ensure it stands up better against the elements.”

Waterproof Deck Storage Bench

Sit and Store:

Another simple way to upgrade your deck, says BHG, is to add built-in benches with storage space below for outdoor games and décor. To give the bench a boost (and protect it from the elements), cover it with a cushion upholstered in weather-resistant fabrics and add a few throw pillows.

Pergola Deck Designs

Cover Up:

Want to entertain in the rain? BHG recommends adding a wooden pergola “dressed in panels of outdoor fabric.” If you’re looking for something that can handle a downpour, BHG suggests a custom roof frame outfitted with clear polycarbonate panels.

Where To Rent Tools For Deck Building Project

Wrap Around:

BHG says that “a railing, gate, or other entry feature can turn your deck into a safe, cozy enclosure.” Additionally, the railing can provide a platform for planters, bird feeders, garden ornaments, and more. Add a ledge and the railing can also provide a place to set down those summer cocktails.
