Don’t look now, but summer break is just around the corner. With that in mind, we thought it would be fun to share a list of top beaches for families in 2016, courtesy of Family Vacation Critic, a family travel site from TripAdvisor. Below is their top ten list. Here’s to summer!
Cape Hatteras National Seashore – Outer Banks, NC
The lighthouse here is open all summer long for daytime and a few nighttime climbs. In the evenings, families can climb with flashlights to get a prime view of the Milky Way.
Sleeping Bear Dunes National Seashore – Empire, MI
You can pick up a free Junior Ranger Book at this beach, which includes fun activities for kids to complete. Once they do, the kids will receive a Junior Ranger badge and certificate.
South Padre Island – South Padre, TX
Families visiting this beach can work with a local sea turtle rescue on dozens of scheduled releases during the summer and watch as tiny sea turtles enter the ocean for the first time.

The Wildwoods – Wildwood, NJ
Access to these beaches is free and there is a special dog beach here for families who want to bring their dog along.
Captiva Beach – Captiva Island, FL
Here, the Captiva Kayak Company offers boat rentals and kayak adventures into local waterways to explore Captiva’s beaches and bayous.
La Jolla Cove: San Diego, CA
La Jolla Concerts by the Sea are offered every Sunday afternoon during the summer and provide fun for all ages.
