It might be hard to believe, but 2016 is here. If you and your significant other have plans to tie the knot in this year, the following list of trends might help you kick off the planning process. Below, we’ve shared a list of what is in and what is out for weddings of 2016, courtesy of Danielle Rothweiler for The Huffington Post. Congratulations!

  1. Glitter in your Stationary Out, Foil Stationary In: Rothweiler says 2016 will “bring us the modern but still fun look of sparkle by changing out the big bling on invitations for foil printing.” Rothweiler says she loves foil printing on stationary because it’s chic, clean, and modern without the mess that comes with using a glue stick and glitter.
  2. DJ Out, Mixing Live Music with your DJ In: Rothweiler says a live musician or two or three will enhance what a DJ can bring to a reception. She says she has seen everything from singers to pianists to trumpet players and “it’s always amazing.” Rothweiler advises couples to jump on this trend before it’s “trendy” and everyone is doing it.
  3. Chiavari Chairs Out, Ghost Chairs and Crossbacks In: Rothweiler says Chiavari chairs in all colors are available everywhere these days so people are tired of them. Instead, Rothweiler recommends a ghost chair or crossback which are two completely different styles. Choose the one that best fits your wedding’s look, she says.
  4. Fluffy Light Colors Out, Deep Jewel Tones In: Rothweiler says that if you are using combinations of fluffy light colors – pink, gray, crème, gold, and white – you’re beating a dead horse. With that being said, Rothweiler says we can expect to “see a swing of the pendulum to the darker, deeper jewel tones.” These colors work for indoor and outdoor weddings in any season and offer “depth and romance to your wedding.”
