When it comes to party planning, it’s easy to go overboard – especially when the guest of honor is your child. To make sure you stay under budget when putting together your kid’s birthday party, we’ve shared a list of tips from Kristin Colella. Have fun (and good luck)!
Plan Ahead: Colella says that it’s a good idea to plan your child’s party as far in advance as possible to avoid overspending on party essentials, such as balloons and tableware. She recommends giving yourself plenty of time to shop around for the best deals on everything you need and to use coupons whenever possible.
Send Digital Invites: Colella says that, while paper invites are a nice touch, they aren’t necessary in today’s digital world. Send an electronic invite using Evite or Paperless Post, which offer many free, colorful options.
Keep the Menu Simple: Colella tells parents not to worry about creating an elaborate menu for the party and to serve a few basic, fun items instead. She recommends using pitchers instead of buying bottles of water and soda and purchasing food items in bulk which can cost less than your local grocery store to cut expenses. Another tip? Consider hosting the party in the morning or after lunchtime. That way, you’ll only have to supply snacks and cake, she says.
Scout Out a Free or Cheap Venue: Collela says you should look into places to host a party for free or a small charge instead of a pricey venue. If you can’t host the party at your house, try a friend’s or reserve a space at your local park.
