The man best known for the phrase, “You’ll like the way you look – I guarantee it”, is back in the game after being removed as CEO and executive chairman of Men’s Wearhouse two years ago.
George Zimmer, who founded Men’s Wearhouse in 1973 and started zTailors, a service that sends tailors to your home or office on demand, earlier this year, announced he is launching a new venture that allows men to order suits and tuxes online. Generation Tux will offer clients 17 different suiting options at a flat rental rate of $95. Clients can also rent the entire outfit, including shirts, shoes, ties, and cuff links for $150. Additionally, clients will have access to the network of zTailors who will be on hand to make adjustments, according to a story in Fast Company.
The website has many competitors in the online market including The Black Tux, Menguin, and Simple Tux, all who have similar business models and price points. Zimmer told Fast Company that he has a twofold approach to separate his business from his competitors. The first is in scale. Zimmer has raised about $50 million across two financings that have helped him establish an infrastructure for the business, including a distribution center in Louisville, which holds 30,000 suits and a dry-cleaning facility for faster turn-around times.
Second, the company has invested heavily in technology. The website offers customers a visualizer that allows them to put different merchandise on a mannequin and a wedding management tool to allow brides and grooms to see where each groomsman is in the tux rental process.
The website, which had been in the beta phase for several months, went live earlier this month.
What do you think, guys? Would you use an online tux rental service?
