Most folks can afford to rent the most commonly rented items: cars, tools, vacation homes, and apartments. But there are certain things out there for rent that only the wealthiest people can rent, charter or lease. Here is a a list with five items, courtesy of Andrew Lisa of GoBankingRates.com:
- Private Jets: Rather than sitting in coach trapped between a crying baby and the plane’s bathroom door, the ultra-rich fly private. The chartered jets “give them more flexibility when traveling, often complete control over their schedules, and – unsurprisingly – come with a staggering price tag,” says Lisa. A private jet charter from Pentastar Aviation costs between $1,400 and $8,500 per hour depending on the type of jet, miles traveled, and number of passengers. Flying from JFK Airport to Miami International? That will cost you a cool $34,000. New York City to Paris? $115K.
- Yachts: A “status symbol for the extremely wealthy,” renting a yacht from Carefree Yacht Charters will cost you $10,000 to $50,000 per week. You do, however, get plenty of perks at that price including fuel, meals, a bar and more.
- Homes: The world’s elite often choose to rent a home rather than buy one because of their globetrotting lifestyles (or because they don’t want to deal with the hassles of home-ownership). Justin Bieber, for example, rents a six-bedroom estate in Beverly Hills for $60,000 a month. Rhianna? A $39,000 penthouse in New York City. Brad and Angelina? A 22,000-square-foot home in Long Island for $60 million.
- Jewelry: Chances are you won’t receive an invitation to the Oscars or Grammy’s next year. But for those celebrities who are, there are plenty of places that offer high-end jewelry for rent for that special night. Haute Vault, for example, rents pieces worth up to $150,000 to paying members. An 18-karat white gold and white diamond Sophia necklace worth $19,800 rents for $792 week while a men’s Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Off Shore Watch that retails for over $23,000 costs members $2,160 a month.
- Celebrities: Sometimes celebrities actually rent celebrities and the price is staggering. Usher and The Eagles charge $1 million and $6 million for a private concert, respectively while Charlie Sheen charges $250,000 to appear at an event.
