Rent a Hungarian Village and Be Mayor for a Day (For Real)

Rent Hungary VillageThe truth is, you can rent just about anything. Tools? Check. A car? Check. Textbooks, homes, cameras? Check, check and check. A Hungarian village? Yes. Wait. What? That’s right, a Hungarian village.

According to a recent article in The Washington Post, the Hungarian village of Megyer is available for rent for about $750 a day says the Associated Press. The village, which is located about 120 miles southwest of Budapest, features four streets, seven fully-furnished “peasant style” houses, a mayor’s office, and a cultural center. Want more? The mayor of the tiny town, Kristof Pajer, will also toss in horses, cows, sheep, a poultry house and 10 acres of arable land.

The goal, according to the AP, is to breathe new life into the village which has a current population of 18 and dates back to the 11th century. The mayor, a 42-year-old engineer from Budapest, stumbled upon the village 10 years ago and says it is the perfect setting for companies from the big city looking for a great location to hold team-building activities or regular folks just looking to getaway for a little while.

The mayor told The Telegraph that he hopes that this type of leasing model can be replicated by other Hungarian hamlets that are struggling to retain residents who move to the city to find employment.
