There are many people who dream of one day renting an RV and taking a trip along the California coast. Truth be told, I’m one of them. Sure, flying to your destination is quick and (usually) convenient, but when you’re tens of thousands of feet in the air you miss out on all of the sights right here on the ground. - South: Offering 200 sites near the beach south of Malibu, this park has the second highest Woodall’s rating. Take a hike in the Santa Monica Mountains or watch for dolphins and whales along the shore. A little further north is Pismo Sands which has 112 sites and has been named “Best Medium-Sized Park” four times by the California Travel Park Association.
- Northern Coast: Located on the Sonoma Coast about 65 miles north of San Francisco, this park features 128 RV spaces and is highly rated by RVer’s Online. Another great spot? Benbow RV Resort on the Eel River which won “Best of the West” award in 2004 as the top RV park in the west.
- Central Coast: About 10 miles north of Monterey Bay is Marina Dunes RV Park which has 88 spots, the second highest Woodall rating, and sits across from one of the state’s best beaches. North of Santa Barbara is the Flying Flags RV Resort. The top Woodall rated site has 351 sites with full hook-ups, pool, playground, Wi-Fi, and more.
- San Diego Bay: Check out the top rated Chula Vista RV Resort which features 237 spaces and a 552 slip marina all within a few miles of all that San Diego has to offer.
