- Goats: Operating in 11 states, Rent a Goat provides goats to “clear land in an eco-friendly way.” Rates vary depending on the size of the space that needs to be cleared and the company estimates that it’s 50% cheaper to rent goats to clear land versus hiring workers to run machinery to do the same job.
- Kid couture: Wearhop.com lets parents rent designer apparel for children up to age 5. Parents can rent the latest duds for one to six months at up to 70% off retail prices.
- Wedding cakes: Now you can rent your wedding dress AND your wedding cake. CakeRental.com lets the bride and groom rent a fake cake made of foam for $150 to $250. Most couples shell out about $550 for a real cake so fake it and put the savings toward a sheet cake – and your honeymoon.
- Caskets: Skip the expensive price tag of casket – $2,000 to $5,000 – and opt to rent a casket for your deceased loved one. The average price of a rental casket is just $750 to $900 plus the cost of the wooden box used for cremation.
- Christmas trees: Hate chopping down a tree before the holidays? Start a new tradition of renting your Christmas tree each year. Rent a Living Christmas Tree will deliver potted evergreens to select California cities for $65 to $300 and then pick it up in January.
- Crowds: Be the life of the party – or at least look like you are – by renting an entourage from L.A.-based Crowds on Demand. For a fee, you can rent five to 300 people to hang with you at a party, greet you at the airport, or follow you while you shop.
