There are many great things about flying. But spending time in an airport isn’t one of them.
From delays at TSA checkpoints to layovers and cancellations to mechanical and weather issues, there’s a good chance you’ll be stuck in an airport longer than you’ll be stuck on a domestic flight. Sure, a magazine or book can help you kill an hour or two and your smartphone provides a thousand ways to pass the time, but wouldn’t you love the chance to get outside, stretch your legs, and grab some fresh air instead while you wait for your flight? At the Baltimore-Washington International Marshall Airport (BWI) you can do just that – on the back of a bike.
According to a recent article in the Washington Post, travelers making a stop through the airport can now rent a bike from turnkey bike-sharing company Zagster and ride around the perimeter of the airport. The bikes, which cost $5 for up to 12 hours use, can be ridden around the 12.5 mile airport loop, a regular route for cyclists, or to the nearby light rail stop and buses. In all, Zagster will provide 10 bikes which will be available just outside the international terminal.
Riders interested in renting a bike can download the Zagster Mobile App or log-on to the company’s site at www.zagster.com. To rent a bike, riders simply enter the number of the bike they want to use and Zagster sends an access code for the bike’s lock box. Riders can then use that code to lock and unlock the bike anywhere they decide to take it. Once a rider is finished with the bike, they just return it to the Zagster location and hit a button to end the rental and make it available to other riders.
