Well, this is interesting. Philadelphia, the birthplace of the gut-busting cheesesteak sandwich, has just been named one of the top 10 healthiest vacation spots in the U.S., according to a study by consumer advocacy site NerdWallet Health. The study, which ranked the 50 largest cities in the county based on variables such as walkability, weather, hotel cost, and number of farmers markets, slotted Philly in the seventh spot just ahead of Long Beach, Calif.
In looking at the standings, Philadelphia ranked high in the areas of walkability and weather and finished in the middle of the pack with regards to hotel cost at $160 per night. So why didn’t the city rank higher? It turns out Philadelphia has just six farmers markets within 10 miles of Center City which ranks them lowest among the top 15 on the list and well behind #1 New York City which has 148 markets. Overall, the top five cities were New York, San Francisco, Portland, Washington D.C., and Los Angeles.
