Don’t let the bright lights of Las Vegas fool you. During our country’s most recent recession, Sin City was one of the hardest hit housing markets in the U.S. As many properties tumbled into foreclosure and population numbers wavered, the construction business took a hit and many companies in the area struggled to find work. Fast forward to 2014 and you’ll find that things are improving.

According to a story by KLAS-TV Las Vegas, the population in southern Nevada is growing at a rapid clip, which means local construction companies are looking to hire. One company, Martin-Harris, has hired 40-45 people since January of this year as the construction business begins to pick up. Rather than new builds, however, much of the construction has been re-modeling projects, specifically on properties that were bought after bankruptcy.

This week, Applied Analysis will release its 34th annual Las Vegas Perspective which provides a comprehensive look at the 2013 economy in southern Nevada. The biggest highlights from the presentation are expected to be the population boom’s effect on the local economy and the comeback of the construction industry.

According to a representative from Applied Analysis, the construction industry has added more jobs over the past 12 months than any other sector and is growing by more than 8 percent. A good sign for a city that has weathered the storm and looks to grow going forward.
