Tired of summer trips to the beach or an amusement park? Grab the family or a group of friends and do something different this year. Off-roading offers plenty of thrills for riders of all ages and is the perfect way to spend an entire summer day outdoors. Are you ready to hit the trails? Here are the top off-road destinations in the U.S. according to Vernon Marker, contributing writer for The Car Connection:
Molokai Forest Reserve Road (Hawaii): Take a drive on this forest road and experience canyons, sea cliffs, majestic waterfalls, and the Kamakou Peak.
Allegheny National Forest (Pennsylvania): Enjoy the beauty of this Western Pennsylvania river valley on these trails which are open from Memorial Day to the last Sunday in September.
Grand Canyon & Monument Valley (Arizona & Utah): There are a number of trails located in and near the Grand Canyon, one of the Natural Wonders of the World, and Monument Valley that will provide days of off-road fun.
Canyon Country (Utah): Take an ATV and hit the 100-mile White Rim Trail and take in the red rock canyons and 1,000 foot overlooks above the Colorado and Green Rivers.
Munro Trail (Hawaii): Along this 10.5 mile trail you can enjoy views of four different Hawaiian islands, mountains, valleys, forests, and a beautiful coastline.
Mendocino National Forest (California): Enjoy the best of Northern California (Wine, anyone?) and a little off-road fun by taking your 4×4 to this beautiful West Coast national park.
Death Valley National Park (California): This park can offer quite an adventure – just be sure to visit in the winter or spring when temperatures are unlikely to hit the U.S. record high of 134 degrees.
