It’s been said that if you got it, flaunt it. Well, it seems like over 40,000 Americans are doing just that. According to a recent article in the Wall Street Journal, German sports car maker Porsche AG has said that its U.S. sales were up 21% in 2013 and set a new record of 42,323 vehicles. Although most of the company’s models aren’t very practical (or even necessary) for everyday travel, the company has seen its best sales year ever in America despite steep price tags.

Cayenne, 911 Leading the Way

Leading the way with over 18,500 units sold was the Cayenne sport-utility vehicle but perhaps most surprising were the sales numbers for the 911 sports coupe, the “foundation of Porsche’s high-end image and racing provenance.” In all, the 911, whose average base price is over $100,000, outsold both the lower-priced Boxster and Cayman sports cars, which combined for just under 8,000 units. According to WSJ, Porsche expects favorable market conditions to continue in 2014, a year the company will enter with its youngest product line ever.
