Rental Car Companies Using Social Media to Attract Customers

In today’s world, businesses of all sizes are using social media to interact with and engage current customers and attract new ones. Despite the fact that larger companies and brands have a larger pool of resources, social media has helped even the playing field for small businesses with creative ideas but a limited budget. From mom-and-pop shops to the world’s largest grocers, many businesses have an online presence and are taking advantage of the benefits social media has to offer. Giant car rental companies are no exception.

In a recent article in USA Today, writer Gary Stoller discussed how the country’s top car rental companies are using social media to court new customers. Using weekly coupons and online contests, the nation’s top companies including Enterprise Holdings – made up of brands Enterprise, National, and Alamo – and Budget are hoping to build their social media presences.

Enterprise Carves Out Niche on Facebook

According to a report by Unmetric, a company that monitors more than 10,000 brands and analyzes their social-media performance, it was found that Enterprise Holdings have more than three-quarters of all auto-rental Facebook fans and was the second-most-frequent Tweeter, due in part to the fact that the company replies to more than 1,000 tweets from customers in an average of less than two hours. Unmetric also pointed out the “most engaging post” in their report, an invitation by Alamo to enter the company’s Games 2 Go Sweepstakes back in June.

According to Unmetric’s CEO, those companies with the largest number of travel industry sales usually have the highest scores on Unmetric’s scale.
