Prefer to use public transportation? DC offers several perks. Travelers with disabilities looking to take advantage of the city’s Metro service can obtain a Metro Disability ID card that entitles the holder to discounted fares on Metrobus, Metrorail, MARC trains, and several other systems. Additionally, DC also offers MetroAccess, a shared ride, door-to-door, transit service from 5:30 a.m. to midnight.
Worried about gaining access to your favorite monuments or popular tourist spots? Don’t be. All Smithsonian museums in DC are wheelchair accessible and special tours for those with disabilities can be pre-arranged. Additionally, all of the memorials in DC, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and The National Theater are equipped to accommodate visitors with disabilities.
