Congratulations, hipsters. The creative minds at Cornett-IMS have come up with a way for you to get paid for your gift of facial hair. Based in Lexington, Kentucky, the ad agency is offering $5 per day to any man willing to hang an ad in their beard. The “beard-vertising” campaign was designed for A&W Root Beer and is open to any man looking to make money using what Whit Hiler of Cornett-IMS calls his “mancessory”. Hiler claims the company has received a huge response from men looking to host beardboards and has been in talks with other brands that want to become beardvertisers. From Brad Pitt to corporate big shots, it seems as though everyone is embracing the beard these days.
Although beardvertising is an original concept, it isn’t the first time individuals have been willing to sell their body parts for money. Earlier this year, Vice Media published a story on Andrew Lardinois, a 33-year old tax professional from Portland, who gets paid for shaving the logos of local businesses into his hair. And who could forget the man who had the Romney-Ryan logo tattooed on his face during the 2012 presidential campaign only to have it removed after the election? Gotta get that paper I suppose.
So far, Cornett-IMS hasn’t been able to measure what the campaign has meant for A&W’s bottom line, but it sure has people talking. From the Huffington Post to Japan’s AdGang, media outlets and blogs all over the world have picked up the story. If I could grow a beard, I would milk this opportunity for all its worth.
