Jet Pack Rentals and Water Adventures

Fans of the Jetsons or the Rocketeer, as well as individuals who have longed to strap on a jet pack and escape the bonds of mother earth, take note. A novel and breakthrough rental concept is now getting off the ground in Florida, Arizona, California, and Hawaii that can make your flying dream come true.

Water Jet Pack Rentals and adventure tours in the Florida Keys

Jetlev R200 Jet Pack Rental

Developed by German company MS Watersports GmbH , the Jetlev (an abbreviation of Jet Levitation) allows the user to experience personal flight in a way that leaves renters exhilarated and delighted. Designed for use over water, the recreational jet pack is propelled by two powerful streams of H2O, sending the wearer three stories into the air at 22 mph. The Jetlev is designed for safety, stability, ease-of-use, and features precise and effortless flight controls. Promoters claim that newbies can learn to take off, fly, turn, hover and land in as little as six minutes on the water.

The device is tethered by a hose to a small trailing craft about the size of a jet ski that pumps in the water which keeps the user aloft. Inventor Ray Li has been tweaking and reworking the concept since 2003. Safety and ease of use were his primary concerns and the Jetlev earns high marks for both. A fall from its maximum height is akin to jumping off a diving board.

The Jetlev jet pack story has been featured on NBC’s Today Show, Fox News, Sports Illustrated, Discovery Channel, Popular Science, and is the subject of several YouTube videos.

Denver Boom Lift Rental Safety-Rent Safe Fall Hazard Prevention

This fall hazard awareness construction work site safety update is sponsored by Rent It Today’s Rent Safe program and features Volvo Rents Denver construction equipment rental center in Longmont, CO and the Colorado Springs, CO construction equipment rental location - The Denver Scissor Lift Rental and Boom Lift Leasing Experts.

Boom Lift Rental Safety Precautions Prevent Fall Hazards

Safe Use of Aerial Boom Lifts Minimizes the Risk of Fall Hazards and Saves Lives

Boom lift rentals, scissor lifts, and man lifts are construction site staples, thanks to their ability to provide a stable aerial work platform that places workers in normally hard-to-reach areas where work must be done. With any type of construction work or heavy equipment use there are always hazards and risks involved. When it comes to renting aerial boom lifts and working at heights, fall hazards are the top safety priority.

Aerial Lift Fall Injuries PreventionThe National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Construction Workplace Safety and Health division reported “according to the 2009 data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 605 workers were killed and an estimated 212,760 workers were seriously injured by falls to the same or lower level. The highest frequency of fall-related fatalities was experienced by the construction industry (NIOSH Construction Fall Injuries Prevention in the Workplace).”

The great tragedy is that most, if not all, of these accidents could be prevented through proper training and by observing appropriate safety precautions.

Lanyards, safety harnesses, and/or full body harnesses should be worn at all times while working at heights. As with any motor vehicle, operators should perform a safety inspection prior to operation. Any worn or broken parts must  immediately be repaired or replaced. Tires must be in working order and all screws must be securely tightened to ensure the safe operation of the vehicle.

Safety Harnesses Prevent Fall Injuries while operating Scissor LiftsAerial lifts must be operated in a situations for which they were designed. Boom lift rentals should be  operated on level ground or inclines within their recommended safe ranges. Anything outside of that range could cause the lift to break free and roll or slide during operation. Additionally, workers should keep a look out for low-hanging wires or other overhead obstructions. Colliding with overhead structures can cause not only monetary damage but also severe injuries. Thorough training must be completed before operation. It might be tempting to pick up these skills on the job, but that’s how expensive and potentially life-threatening accidents occur. Common sense can save the day. If you’re planning to operate a vehicle, don’t do so until you’re adequately trained.

In order to successfully reduce the risks of fall hazards, fall injuries, and fatalities from falling regulators, manufacturers, construction equipment rental companies, contractors or employers, workers, safety professionals and researchers must work together. Only through collaboration and dedication to improving work environments by implementing new effective fall prevention and protection technologies and safety practices can the construction industry create a safer, more productive workplace.

Volvo L35B Wheel Loader Rental Safety

Volvo CE L35B Compact Wheel Loader

Volvo L35B Compact Wheel Loader Safety and Maintenance

Whether its ink-less, crusty dry erase markers in an office or construction equipment with a completely empty fuel tank, nothing can make a job an annoying slog like poorly maintained tools. Not only does it hurt productivity, but in the case of construction, can actually be a huge security problem. Thankfully, high quality construction equipment from an equipment rental source is built with this in mind, which makes maintenance a breeze. Heavy equipment machines like wheel loaders are rented often and used for a variety of job site applications in rugged environments. The Volvo L35B compact wheel loader is an example of this – it absolutely needs regular maintenance like any piece of construction equipment rental does, but it’s built in such a way as to make that maintenance as easy to perform as possible.

Rather than squish and cram the machinery inside the engine compartment wherever it will fit, Volvo has taken care to position all the serviceable elements of the engine in easy reach. The most drastic (and undeniably coolest) feat of engineering for the sake of convenience is that the L35B loader’s engine is actually set on its side inside the engine compartment, which makes it much easier to work on. As a result, all the filters are right out in front as opposed to crammed up under the engine. This enables one to swap out filters without having to crawl on the ground and inevitably end up covered in motor oil. What’s more, all fluids are located within reach too. The diesel fuel reservoir, engine oil, and other essential fluids are all extremely easy to check and adjust, which ensures the equipment will always perform at top efficiency.

Of course, maintenance is only one aspect of proper heavy equipment rental use. The Volvo L35B compact loader also has a number of smart safety features to ensure the correct operation of the equipment in all situations. The equipment provides basic necessities like running lights that illuminate the work area in low-light conditions. A particularly innovative feature in the L35B wheel loader is a large pin that can lock the articulating hinge in the middle between the two wheel axles. I’m not in a rush to have a hand or a piece of clothing caught in that monster hinge, so that lock is fantastic for peace of mind while servicing the machine, or using it in a situation that doesn’t necessitate the articulation. Another great design decision by Volvo was to move the boom down in between the wheels. That means you’d have to go out of your way to come in contact with it during operation, and if you do that, you really have no one to blame but yourself for what happens.

From maintenance to operating safety, Volvo has developed a number of innovative features that make the L35B compact wheel loader rental an efficient piece of equipment.

Holiday Decorating with Man Lifts and Scissor Lift Rentals

Boom Lift Rentals

Holiday Decorating With  Electric Man Lifts, Scissor Lift Rentals, and Aerial Work Platforms

There’s a reason holiday decorations tend to stay up well past the new year; merely getting them up in the first place is bad enough. After you’ve braved the dusty attic, excavated the boxes of decorations, and untangled the massive clump of cords and lights, you now get to climb a rickety old ladder in the cold and place your safety in fate’s hands for hours on end. Provided you survive that ordeal, odds are you won’t be looking forward to doing the whole thing again just to get them back in the attic a few weeks later.

Luckily, it doesn’t have to be that way anymore. Simply contact a local construction equipment rental company and rent an aerial work platform.

People are starting to catch on to a new — and infinitely safer — trend in holiday and Christmas decorating. Electric man lift rental machines and electric scissor lifts provide stable footing and secure work platforms that hold tools, lights, and decorations. More importantly they are relatively easy to use and much safer than climbing up a twenty year old ladder.

Scissor Lift RentalElectric man lifts are the smaller-scale solution of the two. These are generally one-man lifts that consist of a bucket affixed to a telescoping arm, which can be moved around with a wheeled base. The smaller form factor makes these easier to move through doors and transport from spot to spot.

If your Christmas tree is often jokingly compared to the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree or your decorating needs are a little more aggressive in scope consider renting an articulating boom lift, towable aerial lift, or scissor lift from a construction equipment rental company. Local heavy equipment suppliers will have a wide variety of available aerial equipment built to handle various weight capacities at different heights. It will take the hassle out of  just about any  job that involves high reach applications.

Scissor lifts have a large aerial work platform that is elevated by interconnected supports that extend in a scissor-like fashion. With a scissor lift rental, an entire decorating crew along with tools and decorations can be elevated to heights that out range an electric man lift. Typically, these lifts are used for large-scale indoor decorating projects like malls or public buildings. However, thanks to a competitive spirit personal homes have started to rival the decorative splendor of more ornate areas.

Rather than dread the task of decking the halls, try investing in your own safety and peace of mind this year with a electric aerial lift rental.

Rent Climate Controlled Self Storage to Own Peace of Mind

Climate Controlled Storage Units

Climate controlled self storage facilities are a wise storage rental option for many businesses and individuals. In some regions the onset of winter and steady freezing temperatures reinforces the need for a secure climate controlled storage rental. Yet renting self storage units that offer temperature, humidity and/or climate control provide great benefits year round for a variety of applications.

Temperature controlled storage rentals maintain an environment of particular benefit for a business which deals in perishable goods. Climate controlled facilities and heated self storage units will prevent damage which results from exposure to freezing temperatures and dry air which accompanies low temps. Self Storage rentals in Denver CO, New York City and the Boston, MA area are a good example of facilities in areas where cold temperatures are a concern. Even more temperate climates like Cincinnati OH, Self Storage facilities offer temperature controlled storage space.

On the other end of the thermometer, climate control facilities have air conditioned storage space when beating the heat is required to ensure goods and valuables are protected. Self Storage in San Antonio, Houston, Dallas and other Texas cities are examples where demand for climate controlled storage units is high due to the hot climate.  It is important to note there are some perishable items which are unable to be stored in many public self storage facilities like perishable food items, plants, flammables and explosives. Therefore, it’s always a good idea to check with the prospective climate controlled storage provider to see what items are permitted for self storage.

Indoor Acess Self Storage Unit RentalsElectronics are very vulnerable to changes in temperatures and humidity so renting a climate controlled self storage unit is a great idea for those wishing to protect their investment in virtually anything related to electronics. Though you might not think of a vibrating recliner or a pinball machine as a candidate for climate control storage, these are examples of electronic goods subject to damage from swelling and contracting which changes in temperature and humidity can cause.

Musicians who want reliable protection for their instruments are ideal candidates for the benefits which climate control storage rental can provide. While rock bands tend to think of their equipment as more durable than that of a jazz trio or string quartet, most musical instruments, including electric guitars, are subject to alteration from extremes in temperature and humidity. The steady temperature ranges and controlled humidity of climate controlled storage provide protection from the elements, and give the storage space renter security and priceless peace of mind.

Controlled temperatures and humidity are also of great interest to those who store wine. In fact, many self storage facilities now offer wine cellar rental space in various sizes to serve those who lack the room or capital to invest in a wine cellar in their home or business.

Climate Controlled Storage Protects Important DocumentsClimate controlled self storage units are a wise choice to protect and preserve valuable paper products and documents. Humidity is a prime cause of yellowing and warping of paper. Paper and paper products are also known to harbor mold if stored in a facility subject to humidity.

Proper storage space is playing an increasingly crucial role in the ability of business to meet document retention requirements. For this reason climate controlled storage facilities are being utilized as an affordable option to address this often legally required practice. Finding rental self storage for your important documents has become simple at Rent It Today.

A good rule of thumb when determining whether climate-controlled storage or a common drive up access self storage unit can benefit you is to simply ask: would I feel secure in storing these items in my garage in this climate? If the answer raises doubt or is a resounding no, then a rental climate control self storage facility will benefit you.

New York Forklift Rentals in Kingston and New Windsor

This construction equipment information is sponsored by Volvo Rents Kingston, NY Heavy Equipment Rental Center and New Windsor, NY Heavy Equipment Rental Location – The New York Forklift Rental and Reach Forklift Leasing Experts.

Warehouse Forklift Rental

Forklift Rentals are a Profitable Option During the Holiday Season

Maybe it’s just an old American mentality, but it doesn’t occur to businesses to rent construction equipment like forklifts when the need arises. Renting a forklift is often a sensible alternative to purchasing, especially since not every business needs a forklift on hand all the time. Construction site material handling applications like moving bricks, drywall, steel beams and/or jobsite supplies are a prime use for forklifts. However after moving materials from point A to B, it’s nice to return rental equipment and keep operating costs lean.

Businesses using forklifts more frequently probably own one but sudden spikes in necessity offer good reasons to  rent a forklift. ‘Tis the season as they say and business surges over the Christmas holidays create great demand in the shipping and retail warehousing industries. If you’ve ever worked at a shipping company, you know how business can absolutely explode during the holiday season.  Why sink the purchasing money and effort of maintenance into equipment you won’t use the rest of the year?

The process of renting is simple. Many business rent forklifts, including car rental services and construction equipment supply companies. You can rent a forklift for any duration of time, from a few days to as long as needed. On top of that, you can choose from any number of forklift types that are designed for specific jobs. Whether you need tough equipment for outdoor material handling applications like a rough terrain forklift, a heavy duty straight mast forklift for lifting hefty loads, or a maneuverable forklift suited for operating inside a warehouse, you can rent it. If handling materials in high or hard to reach places is required then consider leasing a telehandler or reserving a reach forklift rental.

Remember to plan ahead. Supply chain logistics professionals understand how companies use their supply chains to generate value. During the holiday madness a lack of handling materials optimally results in loss of revenue.  Do not assume construction companies have unlimited supplies of heavy machinery on hand. When it comes to seasonal business fluctuations, local equipment rental suppliers may experience similar increases in demand for equipment rentals. Therefore make sure to reserve your forklift rental ahead of time.

Discover Massanutten Resort, Virginia’s Winter Playground

Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountain Ski Vacation Rentals

Massanutten Ski Resort, located in Central Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley just east of Harrisonburg, VA is a spectacular four seasons resort.  Best known for its winter sports, Massanutten certainly does not disappoint and is an ideal place to plan a Virginia mountain cabin getaway.

The ski vacation destination has hosted over three million skiers and snowboarders, and boasts over 1,110 feet of vertical drop.  This drop is the greatest elevation change for any ski vacation destination in Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.  There are 10 ski-able acres, with 14 trails stretching to nearly 4 .25 miles throughout this Blue Ridge Mountain Ski Resort.  There really is something for everyone. Difficulty levels range from beginner to black diamond.

Lessons are available for beginners and intermediates.  Choose from group or private instruction.  There is even adaptive instruction available to help physically challenged individuals overcome personal handicaps and enjoy winter sports.

Trail Maps for the Massanutten Resort AreaTwo terrain parks provide opportunities for those just learning and for those more advanced.  The CMB Terrain Park is the premier park in the region, and is open to snowboards, snowblades, and skis.  It even has its own dedicated lift.  The Easy Street Terrain Park uses smaller features, making it perfect for those just learning the sport.  Both terrain parks are groomed, shaped, and changed daily to keep your experience interesting.  Between the two, you’ll find tons of rails, boxes, and other challenging features to conquer.

If streaking down the hill at breakneck speeds with one or two skinny boards strapped to your feet isn’t your idea of fun, perhaps you’d enjoy snow tubing.  Massanutten’s snow tubing park, known as the Peaked Mountain Express, opened in 1998, and boasts a 900 foot hill that is certain to give you a rush as you speed down the slope with no worries about bumping into other participants.  The tubing lanes are designed in such a way as to keep each tube in its own space, much like the lanes of a bowling alley, but with berms along the sides instead of gutters.

The snow sports are slated to open early to mid-December, depending on the weather conditions.  You can check out their webcam overlooking the slopes right here.

Ice skating at Massanutten is brand new for 2011.  The 4,250 square foot outdoor facility, located at the LeClub Recreation Center, is able to accommodate up to 132 skaters at a time.  The rink is open from mid-December through mid-March.  Ice skating lessons are available, in either a group format or as private instruction.

Massanutten Resort WaterparkThere are plenty of other activities at Massanutten Resort.  On warmer days, check out the Woodstone Meadows Golf Course.  This 18-hole, 65-par course is open all winter.

The Indoor Water Park is a great way to reflect back on summer even while it is still bitter cold outside.  At a constant 84 degrees, you’ll want to break out the bathing suits.  There are so many rides and features, the whole family will be entertained for hours.  Try your hand at surfing on the Pipeline, the largest FlowRider in Virginia.  For the little ones, the Frog Pond is perfect, with a maximum depth of 12”.  There are swings, water spraying noodles, and a frog slide.  Maybe floating lazily down a river is your idea of relaxation at its best.  You can, in the Blue Ridge Rapids.  The central feature, known as the Massanutten Meltdown, contains water cannons, waterfalls, five slides, a giant tipping bucket, and more.

Water slides are always popular.  Thrill to the insane speeds, twists, and turns of the Avalanche and the Skyline Falls body slides.  Both are 250’ long with a 39’ vertical drop.  If you’d rather slide in a tube, check out the Country Cooler, the Peak Splash, and the Melting Mogul.

The Shenandoah Cove family friendly pool is great for hanging out, splashing around, and generally relaxing.  And no wintertime water activity would be complete without a hot tub.  The Shenandoah Hot Springs is an indoor/outdoor hot tub that will soak away the soreness in those muscles that came from a long day of skiing.

In addition to all the above, the staff at Massanutten plans literally hundreds of classes and activities, so you’re sure to find something of interest.  Popular options include horseback riding, volleyball, scuba lessons, horseshoe tournaments, exercise classes, and bingo.

With all this activity going on, Massanutten Resort is the perfect day trip or overnight stay for today’s active families.

Rent Quiet Emphasized at NIOSH Buy-Quiet Meetings

Construction equipment, industrial machinery, and power tools continue to evolve enabling people to accomplish jobs faster, more efficiently and safely. Demand for equipment designed to increase production and profit will always be a dominant market force within the manufacturing industry. Equipment design and functionality is also influenced by competitive forces driven by the need to develop machinery that can do more but cost less. Considering how powerful such economic influences are it is naive to think user safety is always the top priority when designing machinery.

Rent Quiet part of Rent It Today's Rent Safe Initiative

Renting tools and the construction equipment rental industry were brought to the forefront of related discussions in recent “Buy-Quiet” meetings hosted by The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). These meetings included global thought leaders working on the Buy-Quiet (BQ) initiative.

Buy-Quiet is both a call to action and program that is conceptually straight forward: give consumers the option to buy tools and equipment that produce less noise in order to help prevent hearing loss among workers using them. The broader focus of the BQ program involves increasing the demand for quieter machinery in order to influence manufacturers to produce it. Buy-Quiet (BQ) is a National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA) jointly organized by the NORA Construction Sector and Manufacturing Sector Programs, and the NIOSH Hearing Loss Prevention Cross-sector Program.

Rent Quiet at RentItToday.comRenting or “Rent-Quiet” is inherently a concept of Buy-Quiet. The words buy and rent are interchangeable within the context of purchasing equipment relative to its use by consumers and workers.

In the case of noise exposure, hearing protection is certainly a valuable tool used to prevent hearing loss. However, a significant opportunity to bring about long term change in reducing noise exposure and thus hearing loss comes from “prevention through design” initiatives like Buy or Rent-Quiet.

If you are unable to eliminate hazards or remove workers from a dangerous environment the next course of action is to minimize the risk from exposure. Programs that offer resources to help people “Rent Safe” (a resource being developed by RentItToday.com for 2012) or more specifically Rent-Quiet are a viable way to bring safety awareness to the construction and manufacturing industries.

Link to NIOSH Noise Meter

Try The Sound Meter at CDC.gov CLICK HERE

A recent article from the NIOSH science blog mentions some of the challenges that come with getting manufacturers to become vested in and prioritize the production of safer, quieter tools and machines. One sure-fire way to bring about change from equipment manufacturers is through influencing consumer purchasing decisions. How is consumer purchasing influenced with respect to buying quieter equipment?

One way is by developing resources that educate and bring awareness to consumers regarding noise levels associated with different types or models of machinery. Examples of such resources include the NIOSH Noise Meter which enables people to listen to different sounds and noise intensities of commonly used items while learning if they could cause hearing loss. Another example is the NIOSH Power Tools Database which enables one to compare the noise levels produced by different tools.

Ultimately if workers and consumers have access to resources that enable them to make informed decisions regarding how safe (or loud) the tools and machinery they rent are, one may increase demand for safer, quieter, equipment thus bring us full circle in the hierarchy of controls and eliminating the hazard.
