Rent Push Button Protection for Bears in Yellowstone

Bear Spray is more effective Bear Protection than a Gun

Rent Push Button Protection For Bears in Yellowstone and Other National Parks in Bear Country

Yellowstone National Park is not only one of Americas largest and most beautiful National Parks, it is also one the country’s most visited, typically ranking among the top five in annual guests. Attendance in Yellowstone is expected to exceed 3 million in 2012.

Yet many of these visitors probably don’t take into account the fact that they may have an encounter with a wild animal during their visit, much less a bear. Nevertheless the park is home to a significant population of both black and grizzly bears. Yellowstone is the only areas south of Canada that still has a large grizzly bear population. Bears may be seen in Yellowstone March through November.

2011 saw two people killed in bear attacks inside the park. Veteran hikers are aware of the threat and utilize protection in the form of canned bear spray, which has been shown to be more effective than even firearms in protection from bear attacks. In order to educate as well as protect less experienced visitors, a local nonprofit organization has plans to offer rentable bear spray cans in communities adjacent to entrances of Yellowstone National Park.

Bear Spray More Effective Protection Than A Gun and Safer for You and the Bear

Bear Spray Protection RentalsAccording to the Bozeman, Montana Daily Chronicle, representatives of Keystone Conservation are still developing the program, aiming to have rental cans available by mid May. The nonprofit promotes people-predator coexistence.

In a nutshell, local merchants would partner with Keystone Conservation to offer the bear spray. Prior to rental, each can would be tested to make sure it works properly. To keep the program user friendly, customers could rent spray in one location and return it at another. Distributors would weigh the retuned can to verify it was not used, and then rent it out again if it was deemed safe.

According to a Keystone Conservation spokesman, the program goal is to improve public education about the possibility of bear encounters and increase the number of people mentally and physically prepared to deal with them should one occur.

A number of camping and outdoor outfitters currently rent bear spray, including LowerGear Outdoor Rentals and Sales, in areas of the country where bears are known to be prevalent. This program is geared to bring awareness of bear attack prevention to the general public.

Now, if only a spray could be developed to ward off the bears of Wall Street.

Backpacking and Camping Gear Rentals Grow In Popularity

Camping Backpack Rental

As 21st Century lifestyles become more complex, the allure of camping, backpacking and the great outdoors is increasing. Camping is a fun, simple and affordable way to decompress as well as enjoy quality time with family or friends.  Pitching a camping tent, building a campfire, and kicking back under the star filled sky offers a throwback to a more primitive time and a relaxing escape from the increasingly urbanized world.

Outdoor enthusiasts range from the experienced backpacker who relishes hiking into undeveloped wilderness areas, to the Tenderfoot who has limited or no experience at tent camping. Whatever your level of experience, renting gear for camping and backpacking has become an increasingly popular option. Fuel costs make traveling light a priority, and flying to a destination makes transporting gear quite a task, if not an impossibility.

Unless you are a frequent camper or backpacker, investing in costly gear for only occasional use doesn’t make financial sense. You can save money by renting camping gear and using it just for as long as you need it. High quality, top-brand gear rental is available for less than you’d spend to buy and own inexpensive, low quality options. And gear rental also allows outdoor enthusiasts of every experience level the opportunity to ‘try before you buy’.

If you’re a new or relatively inexperienced camper or backpacker, outdoor equipment rental businesses can be a valuable preparation resource. Rely on their experience to ensure you get all the essentials you’ll need. They will answer any questions you may have and are happy to offer suggestions regarding your excursion. Whether you are renting or buying, selection of the right gear is important. Fit, strength, size, weight, length of trip, weather, experience and destination are all important factors to consider when selecting the gear that will work best for you.

Most camping and backpacking equipment rental dealers allow you to reserve online or by phone, and offer consultation and recommendations based on your itinerary.  Your gear is shipped so it arrives at your home the day before you leave on your trip, or at your destination the day before you arrive. Typically there is no additional charge for transit time. When you are finished with the equipment, you simply return it in the same packaging in which it was shipped by attaching a prepaid return shipping label, or following the instructions the dealer supplies with the rental. It’s not unlike renting a DVD online, just in a bigger package.

All in all, experienced outfitters are making rental of outdoor equipment for camping or backpacking uncomplicated and user focused. That’s why this type of rental is growing in popularity. Enjoying the great outdoors has never been easier.

Travel to Shenandoah Valley and Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains

Fresh air, breath taking mountain views, unlimited outdoor activities, and a chance to get away from the daily grind are all part of traveling to The Blue Ridge Mountains in Central Virginia.  Today’s article features The Shenandoah Valley, a popular vacation destination in the mountains of Central Virginia, along with vacation cabin rentals in the area.  Shenandoah Valley Cabin Rentals with Mountain Views

Enjoy the Outdoor Wonders of Central Virginia

People who love outdoor activities will not find a better place to vacation – or to live – than Central Virginia.   There are so many things to do and natural wonders to explore, you’ll never tire of the Shenandoah Valley and the Blue Ridge Mountains.

When Stan Horst moved to Central Virginia 20 years ago, he found the perfect place to live.  Stan and his wife, Debbie, a Virginia native, own and operate Cabin Creekwood, a vacation rental business near Waynesboro.

Novice and expert hikers alike will find trails to suit their preference for a walk in the woods or a serious hike while taking in views from a mountain top or a cascading waterfall.  Some of the options for hiking are:

•    The Appalachian Trail covers over 2100 miles from Maine to Georgia and is the nation’s longest marked footpath.   The Appalachain Trail in Central Virginia crosses the Blue Ridge Parkway a number of times and can be easily accessed just two miles from Cabin Creekwood.
•    Humpback Rocks Trail leads to Humpback Rocks, to Humpback Mountain and to the Humpback Rocks picnic area.  From this trail, ambitious hikers take a spur trail to a strenuous 700 foot climb providing amazing views of the Rockfish and Shenandoah Valleys.  Continuing one more mile, hikers reach the summit of Humpback Mountain with views of the mountain ridges to the north.
•    Spy Rock Trail is one of the Horst’s favorite hikes just for the incredible views offered.   According to legend, Confederate Soldiers used Spy Rock as a lookout for Union Troops.  Once you reach Spy Rock you’ll understand why.
•    Crabtree Falls is said to be one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Virginia and the highest cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi.   This natural wonder with five cascades is definitely a must-see for visitors to the area.  Anyone can enjoy Crabtree Falls as the first cascade is handicapped accessible.  After walking to the bottom of the lowest falls, the trail becomes dirt and you are on one of nine switchbacks that take you to the top of the Falls.  With guardrails on the steeper parts, the trail is well maintained and there are railed observation points for the most scenic overlooks.  It may be tempting to climb over the stone wall to the uppermost falls but resist the urge as the rocks are covered with algae and are very slippery.
•    Torry Ridge Trail is 7 miles long and follows the crest of Torry Ridge, providing great views of wilderness areas.

Caverns are a popular tourist destination in the Shenandoah Valley.  The closest caverns to Cabin Creekwood, Grand Caverns, are less commercialized than many similar cavern attractions perhaps due to being operated by a regional park authority.  Stan often recommends Grand Caverns as his personal favorite.  The Cathedral Hall, which is 289 feet long and over 70 feet high, is an awesome sight with its massive columns, rippling flowstone, and rare “shield” formations.  This cave was visited by both Confederate and Union Soldiers and has over 230 verified signatures of Civil War soldiers.

Luray Caverns are perhaps the best known caverns in Virginia attracting people from all over North America and more than 50 foreign countries.   Well-lighted walkways wind through huge chambers with breathtaking stalactites and cathedral sized rooms then lead to mirror-perfect pools of water.  Guides at Luray share stories about the science behind the natural wonders and how the caverns were discovered.   This is the home of the world’s only “stalacpipe organ” which plays haunting music on natural formations.
