Virginia Ski Vacation Options: Massanutten Vs. Wintergreen

Massanutten Ski Resort in VirginiaMassanutten or Wintergreen: Options Vs. Affordability

Planning a Virginia ski vacation? Massanutten and Wintergreen ski resorts are practically neighbors, making many take a step back, head cradled in hands, and wonder, which one of these winter adventures is right for me? While they both offer amazing amenities, they do have their differences—including price! Figuring out which resort works best for both pleasure and budgetary reasons can be difficult—this all-inclusive comparison will have you seeing the real differences between Massanutten and Wintergreen Resort, so that you can make the best decision for your next getaway on the slopes in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains.

Virginia Ski Resort Wintergreen

Ski & Ride the Slopes

Massanutten Ski Resort is the first for many things in Virginia– first place to offer snowboarding, tubing, chairlifts, and even light the trails at night— but does their seniority mean they hands-down have better slopes? Although they boast the longest vertical plunge in Virginia, at 1,100 feet, they only offer 14 trails; I say only because current competitor, Wintergreen Resort, has a whopping 26 trails to blaze!

The majority of Wintergreen’s terrain is for advanced skiers and boarders, while Massanutten has instead evened out the number of trails for all skill levels. Wintergreen has so many trails to offer though, that even with so many advanced trails, they still have a superb variety for all other levels of boarders and skiers as well. Both offer 2 amazing terrain parks that snowboarders will never get bored of; it’s a goal of both resorts to change the layouts and obstacles daily.

Dining

Dinning at Virginia's Ski ResortsWintergreen offers more options in terms of dining than Massanutten. In fact, Wintergreen appeals to those who want to enjoy more than just good food, but a decent nightlife scene as well. Wintergreen has a great variety of both fine dining and casual dives, some of their restaurants even offer entertainment so that you can hit the slopes all day, then be entertained throughout dinner.

Massanutten also offers a wide variety of restaurants, most of which are casual dining places, which include but are not limited to, a pizza joint, sandwich shop, and a buffet that overlooks the water park. If you’re not the type to fuss with fine dining while enjoying a day of carefree fun, the selection at Massanutten will perfectly suit your needs, and food cravings!

Other Winter Sports

kid snow tubing Both parks offer a similar selection of sports including tubing, the fast paced thrill of flying down a snow-capped mountain while riding inside an oversized tire. Wintergreen has taken it one step further; they have added a zip line you can ride, gliding high above the mountains, your body dangling in the air. Massanutten fights back with the larger ice rink of the two– if you love to ice skate, I suggest checking out their 4,250 square foot ice haven. Wintergreen also has an outdoor skating rink but it is far smaller in comparison at less than 1,000 square feet.

Kid Friendly Factor

Wintergreen offers plenty of fun activities for kids of all ages, including a whole park that even includes a collection of miniature hills for kid-friendly tubing! While Massanutten offers ski lessons to kids 4 years and older, they do not place the same level of attention on entertaining children, especially those that are younger than 4.

Higher Cost, More Options

Weekends at Massanutten will run you $46 for an all day, 8-hour, lift ticket. At Wintergreen, you will pay $72 per adult admission for the same 8-hour lift ticket. Clearly, Massanutten costs less money to enjoy but it also lacks the same endless amounts of space and has fewer activities for both kids and adults to partake in. Of course, this does not mean it’s any less of a resort—Massanutten has a lot to offer at affordable rates. If you don’t have small kids to entertain or you lack the need for more than 14 slopes, these options are pointless to have. On the other hand, if you need these options, the higher price to hit the slopes at Wintergreen will be of worth to you.

Surviving the Waiting Game at the Copier, Fax, or Scanner

Waiting In Line to Use Office Equipment

Do You Have To Wait In Line at Work For the Copier/Printer/Fax?

Office equipment, including copiers, fax machines, and scanners are indispensable tools in most office settings. And when you are given a deadline, it is even more important that the equipment you need is available on your time.

Imagine it – You are minutes away from giving the most important presentation of your career. You logged extra hours, missed family dinners, and are ready to knock your audience off their feet. The conference room is stocked with coffee and delicious treats. The powerpoint is prepped and ready. The microphone has been tested, 1, 2, 3. The only thing left is copies of the information for all attendees. You gather the documents, adjust your tie, and head towards the copier. You round the corner, and you see it…your worst nightmare…a line at the copy machine.

High Speed Copier, Scanner, Printer rentalsIf you’ve been in this situation, you’re probably broken out in a cold sweat just reading this. A line at the copy machine is almost as bad as a line at Starbucks, and no one is going to let you cut in front of them just so you can get your mocha frappe before theirs. In fact, it’s almost dangerous to even attempt it.

In today’s technologically savvy world, most professions rely on the use of computers, electronics, and office equipment in some manner. Unfortunately, however, waiting in line at the copier, fax, or scanner or relying on an old printer that is ready to be sent to a local E-waste recycling facility is an all too often occurrence in work environments. Even if your workplace has more than one of the item, it seems as though everyone needs to use it at the same time. And inevitably, one of them is often out of order. The simple answer to deter the waiting game is to rent a high speed copier, fax machine, scanner, or other office equipment.

Computers, Scanners, and Electronic Rentals for BusinessOffice equipment rental services are a clear course of action to take when standard items require maintenance, while completing a large project, or for testing purposes when evaluating a particular model for purchase. By renting a scanner, fax machine, copy machine, computer, or other electronic item, you not only save money, but you ensure work continues efficiently and effectively.

Rent It Today Signs Up To Support High School Seniors

2012 Senior Signing Day Participants

2012 Senior Signing Day Dayton, KY High School

On Thursday, March 11th,  Dayton High School in Dayton, Ky. held the school’s first annual Senior Signing Day 2012 to recognize a group of 37 senior students as they formally revealed their post graduation college plans and military commitments.

The day’s formal activities included a special recognition lunch for the group sponsored by Rent It Today, which included a fully catered buffet and prizes ranging from gift certificates to passes for local attractions like the Cincinnati Zoo and Newport Aquarium. Participants were also given T-shirts representing their chosen colleges and those choosing to enlist in military service wore their future uniforms.

The special day culminated with a school assembly which was addressed by Kentucky Education Commissioner Terry Holliday. He and the entire school witnessed the seniors as they revealed their post graduation plans and signed their letters of intent.

Guidance counselor Jennifer Glass began this effort last June. She chose a March kickoff to mesh with student excitement over the NCAA College basketball tournaments. “At the beginning of this year, we were named a low-performing school due to our state test scores, and we went through a state audit,” Glass said. “Needless to say, morale was not at its peak. I felt this was a great opportunity to help turn this school around.”

Senior Signing Day is inspired by similar college signing days which top athletes often enjoy. In a serendipitous coincidence, Mrs. Glass was assisted in the program by current Northern Kentucky University Women’s Volleyball coach Liz Holmes, whose participation was part of her own pursuit of a Master’s Degree in School Counseling from NKU.

Students had to complete five requirements by a deadline before they were able to participate in the College Signing Day ceremonies. The requirements were:

1.Attend senior conferences with Mrs. Glass to map and monitor progress

2.Apply to at least one college by Christmas break

3.Take a college tour with a representative of the college by the end of January

4.Take the ACT at least one time in addition to when they took the test as juniors

5.Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form by mid-February

Of 50 seniors at the school, 37 completed all the requirements by the deadline. Of these, 25 will be first-generation college students. “This speaks volumes about what we want to accomplish at Dayton High School,” Glass said. “Students not only learned about the whole college admissions and decision- making process but they also had deadlines to meet. Many schools hold these events for athletes, but I wanted to focus the attention on academics and the decision to further their education beyond high school.”

Graduating Senior Cassandra Baldwin, who signed a letter of intent to attend Gateway College to study massage therapy, said the program was very valuable and she would encourage underclassmen to participate. “It prevents you from procrastinating and putting important things off,” she said.

Corey Scott, who will join the National Guard after graduation, said, “this is the beginning of a road to success, and I plan on continuing my education both during and after my tour of duty with the National Guard.” Scott said he is interested in performing arts, including video production and prop design.

The overwhelming response to Senior Signing Day and its success means the program started by Mrs. Glass will continue at Dayton High School, and Rent It Today will continue to support her in her efforts to promote post high school education for interested seniors.

Rent It Today and Clifford The Big Red Dog Love to Read

Rent It Today and Clifford The Big Red Dog Visit Children in Montesori School

Rent It Today and Clifford The Big Red Dog Visit and Give Books to Children at a Local Montessori School

Rent It Today loves the rental world and all it entails. So when the company recently had an opportunity to rent a tail, it was a no brainer. The tail was part of a costume of Clifford the Big Red Dog, star of the PBS animated cartoon series based on the famous children’s books of the same name by Norman Bridwell.

Rent It Today employee Joe Bricking wore the costume when he and Matt Stephenson visited the Children, Inc. Montessori Early Learning Academy in Covington, Ky on March 8th to hand out Clifford books as part of a youth reading initiative. All the kids were amazed to have Clifford visit their classroom, and were delighted when he handed them their very own copy of one of his books.

Rent It Today enjoys opportunities to get involved in the local community. Being a startup company means we have developed from an entrepreneurial idea to fill a need which is not being sufficiently met in the marketplace. Recognizing a need and developing the means to address it is a natural interest of entrepreneurs and the cornerstone of entrepreneurial enterprise.

In much the same way, the concept of Montessori education developed from an idea that the marketplace was ready for an educational model designed to help children reach their fullest potential at their own unique pace.

So when the opportunity recently arose for Rent It Today to assist a local Montessori school with a donation of children’s books, the fit came quite naturally.

Aerial Lifts and Equipment Rental for Trimming Trees Safely

Lift Rental used for Tree Trimming

Trimming Trees Safely and Properly

It’s the perfect time to set your targets on any annoyingly spreading trees that need to know their place. Whether they’re starting to poke into power lines or tip-toe over your property line, the best time to trim them down to size is late Winter. However, like many people you may not start to think about doing yard work until the weather breaks in the beginning of spring. Naturally, there are no leaves in the way, which makes the work much cleaner and the clippings much neater. In late winter trees and plants are dormant, so removing outlying branches does minimal damage to the tree’s health as a whole.

Now, you could hire an experienced landscaper or arborist to do the trimming for you, but odds are you aren’t reading up on the subject just so you can pay someone else to do it. If you’re angling on the do it yourself route, the first piece of equipment you’ll want is an aerial lift, which can be rented from a number of construction equipment rental sources. This can come in a few forms – some lifts are towed behind a truck, also called bucket lifts, while others are self-propelled. The automotive lifts are naturally more beefy and can generally extend to greater heights, so verify what piece of equipment best matches your needs before investing in a rental.

So you have a boom lift and you’re staring eye to eye with your lumber monstrosity…it’s time to use your rental equipment and trim your tree. You might think that you can just go crazy with a chainsaw and be done with it, but to protect the health of the tree, trimming must be done in a precise and calculated way. The goal is to protect the trunk of the tree – any damage to this can critically damage the tree. For any limb you want to trim from the tree, locate the “stem collar.” Basically, near the area where every branch meets the trunk, there’s a lip of tissue called the stem collar that grows out and makes a little ridge. Any cutting you do needs to be on the branch side of this collar. Cutting in this way will allow the tree to heal the cut quickly.

Once you’ve located the stem collar, a simple three-step cutting procedure will ensure that you get a clean cut and prevent cracks from traveling back to the trunk. First, cut a small, triangle-shaped notch from the underside of the branch just after the stem collar. Then, move down the branch a little and cut through the branch from top to bottom. The notch you cut first will prevent any cracks or fractures from running down the entire branch to the trunk. Once the branch has been trimmed, cut the remaining stub as close to the stem collar as you safely can. Simply repeat this process for all offending branches and presto, your wooden friend will look much more presentable.

Rent It Today has a variety of construction equipment rental and tool rentals available for contractors, construction companies, landscapers, and people working on lawn, gardening, & home improvement projects.

5 Ways Portable Air Conditioning Improves Industrial Environments

Portable Air Conditioner Rental Indianapolis IN

Five Benefits of Portable Cooling for Commercial and Industrial Work Environments

High temperatures, heat, and humidity in a factory or industrial setting can dramatically affect the productivity and efficiency of your employee work force.  The source can be seasonal climate, industrial processes, equipment failure, or a combination of these and other factors. Portable air conditioner rentals are used for temporary spot cooling and also offer long-term mobile cooling solutions.

Here are five applications where the use of portable air conditioning, spot coolers, and mobile cooling equipment rental can increase the comfort of a work environment and allow your associates to be more efficient:

1.    Increase Productivity by Providing Cool Work Stations.  It’s a fact: heat is exhausting to workers and they are less productive when operating in hot and humid conditions. Mobile air conditioner rentals allow companies to provide cool air directly for their personnel and work areas.
2.    Temporarily Cool an Area.  Some places in a factory or commercial building are either designed to be very warm or are by their nature extremely hot. When it’s time for workers to do maintenance or temporarily work in such an environment, mobile cooling equipment allows them to work comfortably. Another application is directing cooled air onto an assembly line so that a heated part can be handled more quickly.
3.    Create a Cool “Oasis.” Creating an air conditioned room where employees can go to recharge and get a reprieve from a warm working station builds morale, and allows a chance to really relax and decompress.
4.    Electronics and Computer Server Room Cooling. Electronics which are an integral part of control rooms and computer server rooms requires cooling to not only protect the equipment, but to optimize its operating efficiency and extend its lifespan.
5.    Increase Employee Morale and Company Loyalty: Supplying comfortable cool air to otherwise uncomfortable work environments is a win-win proposition. Not only are employees more productive, they are glad that company management understands the comfort of their work station is important.

In a commercial or industrial setting, cooling is best facilitated with a focused, targeted mindset. Unlike cooling a home, you’re cooling a specific person, area or manufactured part. Keeping this in mind will help your business adapt to summer heat and humidity changes with increased efficiency.
