In an effort to improve patient safety measures at its medical center, United Health System in San Antonio has announced plans to convert to Nellcor pulse oximetry technology, this according to PR Newswire.

Oximetry is a non-invasive method for continuously monitoring the oxygen level of a patient’s blood. Pulse oximeters provide early warning of dangerous respiratory complications, enabling doctors to detect and treat potentially life-threatening conditions early.

Unlike other devices on the market, Nellcor pulse oximetry technology can effectively monitor a broader range of clients even when signal interference caused by patient movement is present. The motion-tolerance of the company’s technology helps to ensure accurate readings and increases the chances of early detection of serious respiratory issues.
