TurnKey Vacation Rentals takes the hassle out of renting vacation homes.

Tired of running into issues with your vacation rental? Don’t worry. Things are about to get a whole lot easier. Backed by some of the biggest names in the tech industry, TurnKey Vacation Rentals, an Austin-based startup, hopes to change the game for vacation rental owners.

Bringing in the Big Dogs

The company, whose backers include Zillow co-founder Rich Barton, Orbitz CEO Barney Harford, Expedia co-founder Greg Slyngstad, and Hotwire co-founder Karl Peterson, helps vacation rental owners manage and market their properties online. Aside from promoting properties on over 25 vacation rental sites, TurnKey Vacation Rentals also handles check-in, cleaning, maintenance, and guest support according to a recent article on GeekWire.

One Stop Shop

Rather than serving solely as a booking system (see Escapia), TurnKey takes over the management of the rental as a business for the property owner. TurnKey also hopes to “undercut the pricing of regional property managers” by charging 18 percent compared to 30-50 percent of the rental price. Additionally, TurnKey also relies heavily on smartphones and other mobile devices. Renters can access and view maps of properties online and maintenance and cleaning crews can be dispatched using mobile technology. Finally, TurnKey also employs a full-time professional staff to handle guest inquiries 24 hours a day, seven days a week and provides detailed monthly reports to help property owners track revenue and activity. In August 2013, the company received a $1.5 million round of funding.
