Five Canadian Routes to Explore Aboard a Rental Motorcycle
1. Brazeau Dam from Edmonton
A pleasant day trip from Edmonton is the 150km ride to the Brazeau Dam. The dam itself was constructed in 1961 to help control flooding in Edmonton. There are quad dirt bike areas in the foothills and a seemingly endless selection of other trails which would keep one busy for a few days, if need be. Watching for wildlife on the roads is advised, and bear sightings are not unheard of.
2. Smith Dorrien Trail
This mountain traversing road is not heavily traveled as a rule and with lovely scenery and some nice corners, it is usually on any list of recommended tours compiled by veteran Canadian motorcycle riders.
3. Bow Valley Parkway – Banff to Lake Louise
This trip is one of the more beautiful roads in Alberta. Wooded mountains and streams provide an abundance of natural beauty. You’re likely to spot elk and deer as you motor along your route. If you feel like dismounting, there are ample picnic spots. Or take in one of several peaceful cascading waterfalls worth a short hike from the road. Get a preview here.
4. Banff – Jasper
Thought by many riders to be the most scenic ride to be experienced in all of Canada, this ride will lead you through the Rocky Mountains and the Columbia Ice Fields.
5. Longview – Cowley ( Cowboy Trail )
If you like to turn up the throttle and satisfy a need for speed, this is a recommended route to do aboard your rental motorcycle. A real benefit of this route is the very light population along it, leaving you to savor the pristine virgin foothills which make up the topography. For the most part it’s just you, the highway and the spectacular scenery. Long, sweeping corners do a lot to make this a fun run, too. Veteran motorcycle renters advise that it can be windy, so be prepared for that possibility.
