It may seem silly however with the many new rules and regulations by the Transportation Security Administration several precautions have been set in place. Day to day items such as baby formula and liquid filled seethers have to be considered with respect to airports and their respective policies. Follow this guide to ensure that you are in accordance with the latest regulations. Always contact the airport and speak with an authority before your trip to make certain and confirm these rules.

Know Ahead of Time - Before Your Flight

With many new rules and regulations concerning personal travel on airplanes it's important to know in advanced what you can do with respect to baby items. Some items you will not be able to take while others will be more economical to rent and have ready at your destination. What are the regulations for baby items on planes? The key number is three ounces, which I'll be discussing below. This determines what can be taken on your carry-on luggage and what otherwise must be separated and placed in a specific container.

Taking Baby Formula, Milk and Juice on Airplanes

According to the Transportation Security Administration milk or baby formula is considered a liquid, which is obvious enough, however more importantly, it falls into their liquid category. Mothers carrying breast milk are permitted to have quantities of breast milk which are 3 ounces or more as long as it is presented and declared for inspection at the security checkpoint. It is important to note that an infant or child does not have to be present during the flight in this regard however a reasonable explanation will be required.

Formula, breast milk or juice will be inspected by security however the infant or toddler will not be required to test or taste. Security Officers at airports may test any liquid for explosives. Things are conducted in a civil and humane manner. It's simply a matter security and safety for all the passengers on the plane.

The Transportation Security Administration has stated that new mothers will be permitted to bring things like to bring formula, milk or juice on an airplane if the following guidelines are met:

- Any items such as formula, breast milk or otherwise any liquid in relation to you infant or toddler must be separated from other items and placed in a zip-top bag (quart-size and clear) if it is larger then 3 ounces.

- Upon arriving at the security checkpoint declare the items to a Security Officer.

- As these items require additional screening, present them for inspection upon reaching the X-ray machine.

It is advised that you only carry enough formula, milk or juice that is required for the trip to the destination. Baby food items, such as canned, jarred or processed food is allowed with you in your carry-on bag in the plane. This also includes such things as gel or liquid filled-teethers.

According to the Transportation Security Administration things such as baby medicines, creams and other necessary items may be permitted for you to carry-on as long as it is 3 ounces or less. Items that are half full in larger containers, such as toothpaste, are not permitted.

Important Things to Remember:

- Anything over 3 ounces must be in a zip-top bag that is clear and quart-sized) and presented to Security Officers at checkpoint.

- Anything 3 ounces or under must be contained in a container that is no larger then 3 ounces. - Keep any liquids or medicines for your child separate from other items and present for inspection where appropriate.

- Be reasonable is what you are bringing for our trip - staff won't favor a large amount of formula or baby medicine for a short flight.

Use Common Sense with Baby Formula at Airports

Airports and security is all about common sense. Specific items for infants and toddlers are required by your side at all times. Airports have recognized this and, by following the guidelines, you will be able to accommodate your child for your trip. Don't take more then you need. Airport staff and security look only for the necessity of items for the flight and will likely turn you away if you have a substantial amount of any liquid, even if it is formula or baby medicine. Be honest with the airport staff and security personnel. Following the guidelines is the first step in a trouble-free journey. If you're intending on bending the rules then you can expect to be scrutinized. Always, follow their policy and regulations when boarding an airplane and be sure to have your liquid baby items such as medicines and milk separate for staff to examine. Most importantly, contact the airport personally to confirm you are within their regulations and requirements. Confirm what you have, how you have packed it and the amount with an authority before you arrive at the airport. Knowing ahead of time on how to play within rules will ensure a successful journey with you and your baby!
